London’s Woodland One-Derland

London’s 1st birthday party turned out wonderful.  Though, birthday boy was not his true self. It was apparent he was still recovering from his cold with his sniffles,  cute raspy voice, tiny coughs, and he hung on to me like a baby koala.  Luckily, majority of his party guests were recovering from colds too so it worked out. It took some time for him to get in his comfort zone but eventually he wandered off by himself for a bit.  Here are some moments of his big day

S’mores bar was fun and a hit!  I got the idea browsing through Pinterest. I wanted something to go along with the autumn weather and woodland theme. Roasting marshmallows over the fire would have been perfect but since we don’t have a fire pit, a little s’mores bar with Sterno cooking fuel cans did just fine!  The rocks, metal containers, little buckets and topiaries were purchased at Michael’s craft store.  I lucked out with all the tree stumps. My friend let me use hers.

This delicious cake with amazing fondant work was created by Cakes by Rae.  She also made the chocolate covered Oreos which were adorned with fondant succulents, gold L’s, arrows, and birch wood design.  The sugar cookies were a pretty nice size and were absolutely adorable!

The red velvet cupcakes were topped with fondant furry critters, tee pees, leaves, and red mushrooms. Each critter was on top of stump made of fondant.  It was fun looking at all the little touches of details.

The framed chalkboard poster was purchased through Printable candee on Etsy. It was an electronic file and I just printed it at Kinkos.

Hippos usually aren’t considered woodland critters but these were too cute and delectable not to serve!  Hippos are made by Kinder.  They’re a light wafer cookie filled with hazelnut cream.  The acorns were made with Hershey kisses, nilla wafers, and chocolate chips.  I found this idea browsing through Pinterest.

London’s Woodland One-Derland Birthday

Our baby boy, London will be turning 1 in just a few days!   We initially had plans of throwing a huge celebration as traditionally done in our cultures.  We almost canceled the event due to certain circumstances.  I knew I would deeply regret it later. How could we not celebrate our baby boy and his huge milestone?  I love making lasting memories.  I love to reminisce and feel nostalgic when I think about moments in the past.  Your child’s 1st birthday is definitely a big one that cannot be missed.  We just had to do something. After further consideration, I decided to move forward with it and instead of a huge event, we made it more intimate. With autumn weather finally making its debut here in Oregon, and boy, has it been pouring down on us hard!  The Woodland One-Derland theme goes perfectly well with the autumn leaves and crisp chill air. Our house will be adorned with woodland, furry critters, tree stumps, and autumn colors.

Here’s a sneak peek of what I’ve been working on.  Keep in mind, this was initially for the previously planned, big event.

Party Favors:
Stuffed animals, $3.99 each, and paper gold crowns, $4.99/10 pack (H & M)

Blue vintage mason jars, $6.99/6 pack, berry containers, $5/ 10 pack, and paper straws, toot cute stripey mix $4.00/20 pack (http://shopsweetlulu.com   I didn’t have to spend too much out of pocket with this party since I conveniently was stocked up in my chaotic craft room. All the card stock, cricut cartridges, and crafting supplies were ready to be used.  I even re-used objects from previous parties.  Lots of the paper decor was made by me with the handy cricut die cut machine.

I’m so excited to see the end result.  More pictures from the party and details of how I crafted up some of the decor will be on the next post.  I’ll also share where I discovered some of these ideas and where I purchased items.  Stay tuned –Nah
